Inka Markowski grew up in New Mexico in the southwest of the United States and earned her BFA at the University of New Mexico in 2011. Following her strong connection to her parents European roots, she moved to the Netherlands in 2014, where her studio is currently based. Her artwork explores the complexities of perception of place and distance by examining the correlation and interconnectedness between macroscopic and microscopic formations. She combines organic shapes with a vibrant color palette and detailed brushwork, as she draws on her many sources of inspiration, including maps, biology and nature, to create her imaginative abstract landscapes.
